A corporate group from MD Financial was looking for a unique charity activity to help them give back this holiday season. Find out what they did, and how they were able to make such an "incredible" donation to the local veterans' foundation.
The Question – “How can our team give back… in a new way?”
Philanthropic activities are always popular with customers around the holidays – but some teams may feel like they’ve done it all before. This was the case for a corporate group at MD Financial, who had already tried some of our most popular charity activities like Charity Bike Buildathon and Random Acts Of Kindness.
For the holiday season this year, they wanted to try something new.
The Answer – “Wheelchairs For Charity”
The solution was simple – Wheelchairs For Charity. On the day of the activity, the group split into teams to build, test, and donate wheelchairs for veterans in need.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Challenges during the activity helped employees practice their communication and project management skills.
- Each team also got to learn about the work of The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre Foundation, and how important they considered the donation.
- All together, the group built and tested twelve brand new BIOS Living Manual Wheelchairs.
- The donation helped make a measurable difference in the lives of the veterans who would be using them.

The Results – “You have reason to be very proud.”
The team from MD Financial had a great time, and donated the wheelchairs to The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre Foundation. Daniel Clapin, the executive director of the foundation, said the wheelchairs would be put to good use:
“Because of the generosity of MD Financial and the good work of your team, the residents and veterans of the Perley Rideau will have an easier time getting around, going to activities, and visiting family members. Having a readily-available wheelchair may not seem like a lot to you and me, but it could mean the difference for someone deciding whether to visit the Creative Arts Studio, go to Bingo, or our ever-popular ice-cream Wednesdays! Incredible work… You have reason to be very proud.— Daniel G. Clapin (Executive Director, The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre Foundation)
